Unfortunately, my experience has been horrible since the management took over in July 2019. I've been a resident here since November 30, 2018 and before this management company I loved it. Prior management was very responsive and provided accurate/reliable information.
I was given notice to re-sign at my current unit 130 or vacate sometime in September because they planned on renovating my unit. I thought no problem, I'd just move to a different unit so I went in that same day and spoke with them. The property manager at the time, assured me that she could transfer me to unit 126 and I asked if I'd have to sign anything or pay any fees... she assured me that she had, "put a note in the system" and I'd be all set.
Well I went back weeks later to check to see if there were any units with a washer/dryer available, they had one and a different women quoted me at a much higher price than I was currently paying. I said that that was okay I'd just stick with transferring to unit 126. That's when she told me that 126 has already been leased and that my current unit had been pre-leased.
Following my conversation with her, I spoke with Jeff. Supposedly he was the new property manager that just took over. Jeff and I agreed that I'd move to a different unit despite what the prior property manager assured me of and claimed that that wasn't his fault. I thought, okay that's fair. I've loved Avalon all this time and I would have loved to stay. So we agreed I'd move to unit 132 after my lease ended at 130 of course the expenses would be higher since this was a renovated unit. Mind you, I wasn't thrilled to hear this as felt that I should have moved to 126 all along.
Anyways, the lease for 132 was sent weeks later and the dates of move in were 11/27 - 11/29 and they were charging me the higher rent for 132 even though I had paid my November rent at 130 already.
So I went and spoke with yet a different person in the office that day to see if we could change the move in date to 11/30 on 132. He did so and said that there must have been mistake.. offered no apology.
I hadn't signed the lease yet for 132 since I wanted to see the unit prior to move in given my prior poor experience here. When I went to view 132 it was completely destroyed as it was being renovated.... clearly not ready for move in. The women offered to move me to 333 which is 3 floors above my unit. I declined since that's not what we originally agreed to. I couldn't speak to the property manager on 11/29 and she said I could come talk to him that Monday to sort things out.
After this experience, I was through with Avalon and went to seek out a different complex under different property management. At this time, I was concerned since I wasn't on a lease with Avalon.
On 12/2 I spoke with the property manager Jeff yet again to see what we could do. He offered a concession on my rent and assured me I could move into 132 later in December. But after all of the negligence I've experienced here I was ready to move on and I asked if I could stay from 12/1 - 12/7 on the basis of having pro-rated rent and utilities. Jeff agreed verbally and I asked for an email to verify. Well I never received an email on 12/2 and since I've been working 12 hours at work as an Accountant, closing month end. I called Avalon to see why I hadn't received an email for verification of pro-rated rent and utilities 12/1 - 12/7 but no one answered.
I'll also tell you that they never answer the phone so that was no surprise. So I came home today on 12/4 to find a notice on my door that I owe Avalon aprox $1,445. Of that $1,070 makes up my rent expense. Mind you my monthly rent is $885. I am very confused and upset. I'm assuming Avalon switched me to month to month rent despite my agreement with Jeff to pro-rate my rent for 7 days which would have been aprox $200.. These reviews are spot on..
Utilities increased drastically up to $180s in September and November even though I've been paying around $60 to $70 a month prior.
In addition, I find about 5 cockroaches a week.
Go elsewhere and pay more.
